NEMA stops BAT from burning tobacco

THE National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has stopped British American Tobacco (BAT) from incinerating over 200 tonnes of tobacco as a measure against releasing more toxic gases into the air. Snohomish County checks up on stores selling tobacco to minors

The Snohomish County Health District is ramping up efforts to cut down on teen smoking. So this week, it’s seeking out stores that are selling tobacco products to minors. The process is more like fishing. Health officials send a 17-year-old into a store to ask for cigarettes or chewing tobacco. About 1 in 10 stores make the sale. Store ads attract children to tobacco

As people were encouraged to quit smoking during the 2010 Great American Smoke out on November 18, attention was also paid to tobacco ads targeting kids. A survey, which was released by Queens Smoke-Free Partnership, Asian Americans for Equality and the American Cancer Society (ACS) Asian Initiative, was conducted at 34 retailers located within 1,000 feet of schools that were licensed to sell tobacco in Queens. Tax agents visit tobacco dealers

Stores throughout Columbiana and Jefferson counties were visited Wednesday by agents with the Ohio Department of Taxation, checking to make sure they are legally selling tobacco products.
