Customs and border protection staff in Brisbane have seized more than 2.5 million illegally imported cigarettes.
They were found in a shipping container from Hong Kong earmarked to contain bubble wrap and lunch boxes.
Under the Customs Act the penalty for smuggling and evading duty is five times the amount of tax evaded and a possible 10-year jail sentence.

Seven men were arrested after 8m counterfeit cigarettes were seized near the border in Co Armagh.
The cigarettes, which are worth an estimated €2.85m, were discovered hidden in a shipment of under-floor heating pipes.
Five of the men arrested are from Co Louth, one is from Co Limerick and the other is from Co Armagh.
The cigarettes are thought to have originated in China.

A MAN is to appear in court after a major cigarette seizure by Customs officers at the weekend.
Officers intercepted and searched a container that was being brought into Rosslare port, Co Wexford, on a ferry from Cherbourg on Saturday.
They found a consignment of more than two million cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €1m. The haul represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €750,000.
