Restrictions on smoking in public areas, which were introduced through amendments to the Health Act, will take effect at the beginning of 2011, according to a regulation on indoor smoking in public and working places approved by the Cabinet on November 3 2010.
The decision comes several months after the Cabinet suspended a complete ban on smoking in public areas, which had been planned to come into effect in the middle of 2010.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – South Dakota voters on Election Day get the final say on a 2009 law that expands the state’s indoor smoking ban to bars, video lottery establishments and Deadwood casinos.
Lawmakers voted to extend the state’s current ban on smoking in most workplaces and public areas, but a coalition of bars and gambling businesses gathered enough signatures to put the law to a Nov. 2 statewide vote.

LOS ANGELES — It may soon be even more difficult for smokers in the City of Los Angeles to light up outside. A new, strict, outdoor smoking ordinance is gaining support at City Hall.
A city council committee expressed support Tuesday for the ban, but ordered several changes to the ordinance before sending it to the full council for approval. The council could consider the measure as early as next month.
