Gerald Long, RJ Reynolds Tobacco chairman and CEO in 1980s and county commissioner, dies at 82

Tweet WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Gerald “Jerry” Long, who served as chairman and chief executive of the second-largest U.S. cigarette company in the 1980s, has died. He was 82. Long died in Winston-Salem on Wednesday. His wife, Marieanne Long, said he died of Lewy Body dementia, a brain disease that closely resembles Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
