Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss go head-to-head in long gowns as style summit is hit by a blackout.

Two of the world’s biggest style icons went head-to-head on the red carpet last night as the fashion world gathered for the British Fashion Awards. But despite their very different dress sense, Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss went for remarkably similar styles as they arrived at the star-studded bash last night. Both the Spice Girl and supermodel, both 35, went for full-length black gowns with long trains and tightly-pulled back up-dos as they sashayed into the Royal Courts of Justice in the City of London.

Posh was wearing a silk crepe Eighties-style batwing dress with crystal embroidery on the shoulderpads from her Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

She completed her Gothic look with a Geisha-style knotted hairstyle.

Victoria arrived solo at the event after earlier attending the funeral of Joseph West, grandfather of her husband David Beckham in north London.

Kate, however, had a date in the form of rocker boyfriend Jamie Hince, who stepped back on the red carpet as the supermodel showed off her sheer dress.

The Croydon-born beauty was wearing a sheer black Flamenco-style tiered dress with extra-long train, which she teamed with a black blazer.

During the lavish party, Kate was awarded the London 25 trophy, which recognises ‘an individual who embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital’.

Clearly surprised with her win, Kate’s awkward acceptance speech consisted of a lot of ‘thanks yous’ before she left with retail tycoon Sir Philip Green, aka ‘Uncle Phil’, and designer Vivienne Westwood.

As well as Kate, a host of supermodels from the Nineties and Noughties dressed up the nines to celebrate the best of British fashion.

German mother-of-two Claudia Schiffer, 39, arrived wearing a red Peter Pilotto dress in support of her designer friend, who won the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear accolade.

Czech model Eva Herzigova, 36, garnered attention in a revealing black dress with cut-away sides, while Russian beauty Natalia Vodianova, 27, wore an azure blue sheath dress.

A trio of younger models competed for the coveted Model Of The Year award, which was won by Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger’s daugther Georgia May Jagger.

The 17-year-old blonde beat Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Daisy Lowe to the accolade.

Daisy, the 20-year-old daughter of musicians Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale, wore a revealing Vivienne Westwood creation with the sides cut out as she presented the British Collection Of The Year award to Christopher Kane.

Another celebrity offspring-turned-model in attendance was Amber Le Bon, who was chaperoned by her model mother Yasmin and Duran Duran singer father Simon.

Amber, 20, teamed a black Mark Fast dress with a velvet Topshop jacket and was carrying a Chanel bag – a birthday gift from mum and dad.

Also keeping it in the family was veteran model Twiggy and her daughter Carly Lawson, who were both dressed in Stella McCartney’s latest collection – an old family friend.

Twiggy was joined by fellow Marks & Spencer models – past and present – Myleene Klass, Erin O’Connor and Laura Bailey, who looked summery in a bright yellow Roland Mouret dress.

Also in attendance was Bond girls Olga Kurylenko and Rosamund Pike, Pixie Geldof, boxer Joe Calzaghe, dancer Kristina Rihanoff, Sir Richard Branson’s daughter Holly and Sarah Brown.

The big winner at last night’s ceremony was Yorkshire-born Christopher Bailey, creative director of Burberry, who picked up Designer Of The Year and Brand Designer Of The Year.
